Traffic Study Results

Deldot completed their speed data collection for Kiamensi Gardens in early February.

Please note: Typically, seven (7) days of data is collected, but at times due to equipment malfunctions, weather, etc., a shorter period of data is acceptable. Due to the consistent inclement weather in the area, three (3) days of speed data was collected.

The 3-day ATR data for Fenwick Avenue (near #122) is as follows:

– Average daily traffic (ADT) is 600 vehicles per day (vpd)

        – Average vehicle speed is 22.3 mph

        – 85th percentile speed is 26.8 mph

The 3-day ATR data for Fenwick Avenue (near #220) is as follows:

        – Average daily traffic (ADT) is 218 vehicles per day (vpd)

        – Average vehicle speed is 19.1 mph

        – 85th percentile speed is 23.5 mph

The 3-day ATR data for Binstead Avenue (~90’ S of Henlopen Ave) is as follows:

        – Average daily traffic (ADT) is 190 vehicles per day (vpd)

        – Average vehicle speed is 18.0 mph

        – 85th percentile speed is 21.8 mph

The 3-day ATR data for Diamond Avenue (near #2206) is as follows:

        – Average daily traffic (ADT) is 400 vehicles per day (vpd)

        – Average vehicle speed is 21.2 mph

        – 85th percentile speed is 26.8 mph

The 3-day ATR data for Henlopen Avenue (near #2200) is as follows:

        – Average daily traffic (ADT) is 333 vehicles per day (vpd)

        – Average vehicle speed is 21.2 mph

        – 85th percentile speed is 26.8 mph

Based on the traffic data, there is not a measured speeding problem on the subdivision roads of Kiamensi Gardens. To consider a speed hump, DelDot would require the measured 85th percentile speed to be at least 5 mph over the posted speed limit.

So we have 4.5 and need 5. Had I known I would have driven faster while the test strip was in place!
